Twenty-six years of engine silence just ended.

Sunrise dropped the main trailer confirming a February 19, 2027 theatrical double feature for Future GPX Cyber Formula. The 35th-anniversary push brings both a complete re-edit of the origin story and the first canonical continuation of the franchise since the year 2000.

The Double-Feature Breakdown

The theatrical release bundles two distinct projects under original director Mitsuo Fukuda:

* Future GPX Cyber Formula EARLYDAYS RENEWAL: MOVIE EDITION: An HD remaster of the 1996 two-part OVA compilation originally sold on VHS and LaserDisc. Fukuda supervised a full re-edit specifically for modern cinema screens, compressing the foundational 1991 television run.
Future GPX Cyber Formula ASURADA: Brand-new short animation serving as an explicit sequel to Future GPX Cyber Formula SIN*, the fourth and final OVA series that concluded in 2000. It covers a brand-new competitive racing year.

The Original Creative Core Returns

Preserving franchise continuity means keeping the core unit intact. Mitsuo Fukuda handles both directing and scriptwriting duties for ASURADA.

Character designer Hirokazu Hisayuki (SAGA, SIN) returns to helm character aesthetics, while mechanical design veteran Shoji Kawamori—who designed the signature Cyber Machines from the 1991 premiere—returns for the new vehicle profiles.

After carrying four consecutive OVA cycles (11, ZERO, SAGA, SIN) through the 1990s, the franchise went cold. Sunrise is not rebooting or wiping the timeline; they are picking up the pencil where they dropped it over two decades ago.

February 19, 2027 proves whether classic mechanical precision still commands modern box office real estate.
