Murciélago is filthy, unrepentant trash—and it rules. Zero interest in moral redemption, zero patience for highbrow artistic pretense. Yoshimurakana builds pure grindhouse spectacle: blood-drunk violence, rooftop-clearing car stunts, and serial killer on government payroll butchering monsters for kicks.

Score: 8.5/10

Pros: Kinetic, razor-sharp action panels; unapologetic exploitation energy; Kuroko Koumori is ferocious B-movie menace.

Cons: Volume 1 stumbles finding identity; grotesque sexual predation will alienate squeamish readers; Hinako's brain-dead routine tests patience early.

The B-Movie Time Capsule

Take Hellsing, strip supernatural vampires, replace with psychotic human butcher on state leash, drown in sleaze: that is Murciélago. Lanky frame, angular grimaces, sadistic body count—Kuroko Koumori shares Alucard's visual DNA. Difference: Kuroko runs on gasoline, cheap lust, and complete disdain for basic human decency. Saved from death row to slaughter mass murderers Tokyo cops cannot touch, she treats state-sponsored execution like playground rec hour.

First volume stumbles. Yoshimurakana spends early chapters sorting out tone. Hinako begins as jarring liability—god's dumbest wheelman, framed bizarrely as Kuroko's future final kill. Setup feels gross and awkward. By volume two and three, dynamic snaps into place: Hinako becomes Kuroko’s dim-witted mascot daughter, shielded violently from anyone dumb enough to touch her.

Action Over Morality

Action work carries the book. Fights ditch realistic physics entirely. Normal humans slice limbs, detonate torsos, survive lethal trauma, launch muscle cars across city skylines. Yoshimurakana draws carnage with kinetic flair. Gore wraps past shock value straight into pitch-black comedy.

Kuroko herself remains massive roadblock for sanitized tastes. Openly predatory lesbian trope played with zero modern sensitivity: she gropes, harasses, hunts targets with feral libido. Not queer empowerment; pure 1970s exploitation cinema protagonist. Yoshimurakana loves yuri and loves slaughter; manga mashes both together without apology.

Verdict

Readers hunting sensitive character studies or prestige drama should run away. Murciélago is greasy junk food cooked in used motor oil. Trash heap is not bug; trash heap is entire point. Buy for slick violence, unhinged antihero, total lack of shame.
